August Greetings
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year! We hope you had a wonderful summer break filled with relaxation, fun, and quality time with loved ones. We are thrilled to welcome our students back to school, from our youngest preschoolers to our oldest 5th graders. We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning and connection at Crownhill Elementary.
This newsletter covers the most important and time sensitive information for the start of the year, please read through carefully and as always let us know if you have any questions.
2024-2025 School Goals:
Last spring, our staff spent time looking closely at all sorts of data from Crownhill to identify areas of focus for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a lengthy process to attempt to summarize in a few sentences, but below are our key goals for the year. I look forward to partnering with all of you to ensure we keep them forefront all year!
- Teachers learning about and applying new and impactful instructional strategies to support the learning of all students, which should result in identifiable academic growth
- Consistent and clear instruction of social emotional curriculum in every classroom and every setting at Crownhill, using the curriculum "Character Strong" (more on this below)
- An increase in our overall attendance as a result of the two previous goals
Update Crownhill Mission and Vision:
All staff spent the morning of 8/29 engaged in deep philosophical work, thinking hard about why Crownhill exists (our mission) and what we must become to live that mission (our vision). We developed draft statements and are excited to share them with you below! If you have any input, thoughts or feedback we'd love to hear on this google form. While the mission statement might feel simplistic, it is important to have a big picture, singular guiding focus when thinking about our ultimate purpose and when we reference learning we mean academic and social emotional learning. We look forward to continuing this work with everyone in the Crownhill community!
CH Mission: We ensure high levels of learning for all to prepare students for an ever changing world
CH Vision: Our Crownhill community is safe for ALL to learn and grow
Thank you for being a part of the Crownhill Elementary family. We are looking forward to a fantastic year ahead!
Warm regards,
Sam Cameron

Kindness Kickoff (Social Emotional Learning):
We are excited to kick off the school year with a focus on kindness through our "Kindness Kickoff" initiative from CharacterStrong! This program is designed to foster a positive and inclusive school culture by encouraging students to practice kindness in their daily interactions. Throughout the first few weeks of school, students will participate in activities and discussions that highlight the importance of empathy, respect, and caring for others. By starting the year with a strong emphasis on these values, we aim to create a welcoming environment where every student feels valued and supported. We encourage you to join us in reinforcing these messages at home, helping to make kindness a cornerstone of our Crownhill community! Please keep an eye on classroom based communications for more information by grade level.
Attention 5th Grade Families- Outdoor Education is coming in October!
We are thrilled to announce that our 5th graders will be embarking on a three-day, two-night outdoor education field trip to NatureBridge at Lake Crescent! This exciting adventure will take place October 21st-23rd and will provide students with hands-on learning experiences in nature, including hiking, team-building activities, and environmental science exploration. If your child is in 5th grade, their teacher will be sharing more information shortly.
We will be having a parent information meeting on September 12th from 5-6pm.
To ensure a successful trip, we are in need of parent chaperones to help supervise and support our students. If you are interested in joining us as a chaperone, please reach out to Ms.Osburn or Ms.Bach. We will be making our selections for chaperones in late September.
Additionally, we are accepting donations of gear such as sleeping bags, rain jackets, and close-toed shoes to ensure that all students are well-prepared for this outdoor experience. Your contributions will make a big difference and help ensure that every child can participate fully in this unforgettable adventure.
NEW! ParentSquare
ParentSquare, Bremerton School District’s new communication tool designed to keep you informed and connected with our school community. ParentSquare is an all-in-one platform that allows you to receive important updates, school news, and reminders directly to your phone or email. With ParentSquare, you can easily stay in touch with your child’s teachers, RSVP for events, and even sign forms digitally. We encourage all families to download the ParentSquare app to ensure you don’t miss any important information this school year.
SEL Surveys for students in 3rd-5th grade:
In Mid-September (9/16/24 to 09/25/24), we will open our window for 3rd-12th grade students to self-assess their SEL strengths and areas of growth. Bremerton School District is committed to supporting the social, emotional, and behavioral health of students. The insights gathered from SEL surveys are invaluable to school staff, as they help to better understand students' emotional well-being and social interactions. This data plays a crucial role in creating supportive environments and targeted interventions that foster student success. This information will help schools and staff understand the needs of students at both the individual and school level.
Families who wish to opt out of the SEL survey, should contact their child's homeroom teacher or counselor to express this decision prior to 9/13/24. The teacher or counselor will guide them through the opt-out process and ensure the student is excluded from the survey. It is important for families to communicate their request before the survey is administered to ensure it is processed in time. Afterward, families will receive confirmation that the student will not participate in the survey.

Crownhill PTA:
Hi Crownhill Families!
The PTA Leadership team is excited to kick off the new school year! We had a great time meeting so many families at the Back to School BBQ and we hope to see the students wearing their new Crownhill Husky t-shirts the first week. If you didn’t get a chance to attend or pick up a free t-shirt, we will be passing them out the first week of school!
We want to encourage everyone to join the PTA, but you may be asking yourself why or maybe you’re afraid of the time commitment. We hear you! It can sound intimidating, but fortunately, there are no minimum volunteer requirements. Your dues actually directly support our school community! It’s also a great way to get connected with other parents and the school. If you choose to volunteer some time, it’s an opportunity to build your own skill sets and to strengthen our PTA. As an added bonus, there are some amazing discounts and benefits from the State and National PTA, which you will also qualify for! If you still want some more information, please consider attending our first PTA General Meeting on Tuesday, September 10th at 5:00pm in the Crownhill Library.
Finally, our Popcorn Passes are back on sale! For $8, your student(s) will receive one bag of popcorn for each Popcorn Friday. No more scrambling for change or marking dates in the calendar - take care of it today and forget it about it until May!
To purchase a membership or a popcorn pass, visit our Givebacks store at crownhillpta.givebacks.com/store and feel free to reach out to us at crownhillelementarypta@gmail.com if you have any questions!
