As we head into the long weekend, we’re taking time to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the values he stood for. Yesterday’s assembly with the Bremerton High School choir was a special moment for our students, with a clear message: their voices matter, and it takes courage to use them. At Crownhill, we’re encouraging kids to speak up with kindness, confidence, and care for others. We hope you enjoy the long weekend together and find time to talk as a family about how you can make a difference, big or small.

The window for referring students for Bremerton School District’s Highly Capable (HiCap) services opened December 1, 2025, and closes March 15, 2026. Teachers, families, and community members may refer students for consideration.

HiCap services are available for students in grades 1–5 within their neighborhood schools through clustered classrooms with evidence-based enrichment in the regular learning environment. For grades 6–12, students are supported through clustered advisory periods and rigorous coursework. Students may be identified for services in literacy and/or math.

Families will be notified of screening results by early May, and identified students who accept services will begin receiving them in the 2026–27 school year.

Get ready for a fun movie night! We’ll be providing pizza, drinks, popcorn, and the movie. Just bring something comfy to sit on—pillows, blankets, or low chairs are perfect. 

This month is all about Perseverance. One way to think about Perseverance is “pushing yourself through challenges and obstacles.” We all experience challenges in our lives. We all have moments when we feel like we can’t do it or that we want to give up on a big task. It is important to develop tools that help us work through those challenges in order to grow in those moments instead of giving up. How might you practice Perseverance as a family this month?

Perseverance is 1 of 3 traits we will focus on throughout the year that helps students Be Strong. Throughout the school, students will be developing skills like focusing, organizing, and goal-setting.
